Too Late

For many it was too late!

On December 26, 2004, more than 250,000 lives were taken by the tsunami in Indonesia. It was one of the worst natural disasters in history.

The following day my wife and I left the Good Shepherd Home in Honduras for Pennsylvania after a fourteen-month stay, propelled by an urgent wish to be home again. We soon learned that this tsunami had a far reaching effect. By the time we got to Miami Airport, the place was crowded with people everywhere. As hard as we tried to get our flight, we, like most others, missed it. Too late.

Pagan Sleep

Sleep is a God-given natural resource for the survival of the human body. We all are familiar with the feeling of a good night’s rest. Most people will use two or three thousand hours per year to close their eyes and sleep. A godly life contributes to good sleep.

The Farmer and His Field

Mark 4:3-20 contains an extensive account on agriculture to teach an important spiritual lesson. Four types of soil and their production abilities are considered. The parable and ag teacher is Jesus Himself, using the soil for an important lesson.

Good soil and the production of the fields are a joy. Good farm ground is so amazing. But we are also familiar with poor soil. A farmer in Villa Alicia, Honduras, was asked why he would not plant seed in the plot of ground on his property. His reply was, “Poor soil.” Even the goats could not live on the grass from that soil.

Two Cardinal Doctrines

Two cardinal doctrines are taught in 1Corinthians 11. In writing this chapter, apparently the Apostle saw a need for some correction for the home and the church. And these first and greatest of all organizations, the home and the church, need direction yet today. We as God’s people are given to weakness and failure.

I remember a minister in Honduras told me they are never done fixing tires. He said it is the same way in the church. We keep fixing things as they come up.

But Noah

In the Scripture, we have some of the most remarkable events of all history. The things we want to notice are happenings of Noah’s day before the time of universal deluge. There are some things the Lord speaks of in the society of Noah’s day that should help us to take warning for the days in which we are living. The Lord said, “as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be” (Matt 24:37).
