God is our loving Father Who created us and made the whole universe. When man sinned, He made a way for us to come back to Him. He loved us so much He sent Jesus His son to die for our sins. His son rose on His own power and offers us salvation so we can come back to our Father in Heaven. Through this, our loving Father sent an advocate the Holy Spirit to help us while we are still here on Earth. God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are three in one and all mankind need to come to Jesus and follow Him. Jesus saith unto Him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6). This is the only way to get back to our loving Father.
Many people have walked and talked with God. They had a close relationship with Him. When God was speaking to Moses, He said this about Himself: And the Lord descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty (Ex 34:5-7).
This was the second time the tablets needed to be written, showing tremendous love and patience from our God. He tells Moses who He is and tells him what the name of the Lord should be. God has many names but He was telling Moses to personally call Him Lord, Jehovah. He wanted Moses to understand that He was eternal. He wanted him to know that He was Merciful, Gracious, slow to anger, full of goodness and truth, and forgiving. In the ESV it says: The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty.
Moses knew God but also saw God’ power and mercy first hand. The people Moses was trying to lead, did not deserve the Lord’s mercy and kindness since they made another God and disobeyed His commands. We read so many stories of God’s love in the Bible. When you read the Psalms, you can hear the heart of the writers that felt God’s love and direction in their lives. David himself wrote many psalms about God’s love and mercy. Here are just a few things David wrote. For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee (Psa 86:5). For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds (Psa 57:10).
Jeremiah wrote this about God: Ah Lord God! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee: Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the Lord of hosts, is his name, Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings: (Jer 32:17-19).
Jesus always pointed us to the Father: For your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask Him. After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen (Matt 6:8-13).
When a certain ruler asked about eternal life, Jesus didn’t answer the question right away, he made sure that they understood that God is good: And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to Him, and asked Him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God (Mark 10:17-18).
There are so many qualities that God our loving Father has. Fathers can learn from God’s example. A father that has love, mercy, and is slow to anger, will do well in raising his children. Not all children will be obedient to Christ, but our loving Father shows us a way to care for them. He helps to bring their hearts back to a father who loves them. God has a plan and will for our lives. He wants us all to come back to Him. We are His children and our brother Christ will show us the way back to the Father. The day of the Lord will be the most important Father’s Day we will know, when the children of God will live with our Heavenly Father for all eternity. We will live our lives the way God intended. Close by him and communing with him. We will all be changed into the same image from glory to glory! Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord (2Co 3:17-18).
How wonderful it will be to worship and praise God our loving Father!
